Thick Thousand Island Dip and Spread

Most people are familiar with Thousand Island Dressing and its many uses. Your local fast food restaurant may call it secret sauce. Not only is it a good salad dressing, but a lot people use it as a dip or a spread for their sandwiches and hamburger buns. Some traditional recipes even add a mashed hard boiled egg to thicken the dressing. By using a simple trick, you can have a thick Thousand Island Dressing Dip and Spread that can be used without the addition of a hard boiled egg. The trick is to press the syrup from the sweet pickle relish. This not only makes the dressing thicker, but also reduces the sweetness.

This Dip and Spread Is Made With Three Ingredients

Mayonnaise, sweet pickle relish, and ketchup is all that you need. As a sandwich spread, this Thousand Island Dip and Spread can be used on traditional hamburgers, veggie burgers, mushroom burgers, and so on. We also use it as a dip with Frozen Tofu Chicken Nuggets.

Notes:

  • If you use fresh ingredients, this Thousand Island Dip and Spread should keep in a tightly sealed container in the refrigerator for at least a month.
  • I use Best Foods Canola mayonnaise. This is reflected in the Nutrition Facts. If you use a different brand or variety of mayonnaise, the Nutrition Facts will be different. In particular, it will probably have more calories per tablespoon.
