As a matter of fact, you may already have all of the ingredients on hand to make some right now. See the notes below for using a substitute in place of the frozen limeade.

History behind Yogurtnanda lime yogurt smoothie:

“Nanda” is a Sanskrit suffix that means “bliss,” so yogurtnanda means “blissful yogurt.” Yogurtnanda, which was originally created in the early 1970’s, is a distant cousin to the fruit smoothie. In the beginning the recipe called for a 6-ounce can of frozen limeade concentrate. However, it appears that the 6-ounce containers are no longer available which makes it necessary to use half of a 12-ounce container for each recipe.
I prefer to use plain yogurt when preparing this lime yogurt smoothie. But it can be difficult to find in the individual serving size containers of 5⅓ to 6 ounces. You can always use half of a large 32-ounce container of plain yogurt instead. Some people prefer the vanilla yogurt to help counteract the tartness of the limeade. So please give it a try and see if it adds some bliss to your day.

Ingredients for making lime yogurt smoothie; yogurt, milk, limeade concentrate, and ice cubes

Ingredients:

3/4 cup (6 fl. oz.) frozen limeade concentrate. Half of a 12 fl. oz. can
6 ice cubes
1 lb. plain or vanilla yogurt (1-2/3 cups)
1-1/3 cups milk (anything from nonfat to whole milk will work)

Instructions:

1.  Leave the frozen limeade concentrate out on the counter for about 30 minutes or until it is soft enough to stir. It does not have to be completely thawed. Remove the lid from the container and stir the contents so that the lime juice is evenly distributed with the ice crystals. Measure the limeade and place in the blender. The remaining limeade concentrate in the container should be kept in the freezer until needed.

Notes:

  • Although this recipe originally used limeade concentrate, you can substitute an equal amount of any frozen fruit juice concentrate that you like. So orange juice or cranberry juice concentrates are excellent replacements for the limeade.
  • Meyer lemon syrup: You can also use Meyer lemon syrup to make a lemon yogurt smoothie. Simply replace an equal amount of your homemade Meyer lemon syrup for the frozen limeade in this recipe.
